News: the shortlist for awards at this year's World Architecture Festival in Singapore features over 280 projects, including a pleated theatre in China, a giraffe house in New Zealand, a research station in Antarctica and a whirlpool-shaped aquarium in Denmark.

The World Architecture Festival shortlist includes entries from almost 50 countries, with buildings by Zaha Hadid, Tadao Ando and Robert A.M. Stern, as well as many projects by emerging practices.

Winners will be selected from across 29 categories and announced during the festival, plus one project will be named World Building of the Year.

Taking place from 2-4 October, the World Architecture Festival is being held at the Marina Bay Sands hotel and conference centre in Singapore for a second year.
