Paperlove at Design Miami

Design Miami 08: more than 50 paper objects created by artists and designers including Ingo Maurer, Ron Arad, Zaha Hadid, Amanda Levete and Yves Behar were sold at a charity auction held by Miami design store Luminaire yesterday.

Proceeds from the auction will help to fund the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Top image: Paper Elephant by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. Above: Kiss by Constantin and Laurene Boym, made from fashion magazine and wire.

Here is a selection of the designs; all objects in the auction can be seen on the Luminaire website here.
The following information is from Luminaire:

In 2006, Luminaire hosted PUPPYLOVE during Art Basel Miami Beach. We invited over 335 of the world’s most famed designers, artists, and architects to participate in this extraordinary international event. Above: In-Out by Antonio Citterio

A 3D plastic puppy was provided to each of the participants as a blank canvas. These amazingly inspired puppies were auctioned, raising $450,000 to fund the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of the foremost Cancer research facilities. This year, Luminaire is continuing its unending quest of finding a cure for cancer and will be hosting PAPERLOVE where we will auction one-of-a-kind pieces of art with the main medium as paper from world-renowned designers, architects and artists. Above: Untitled by Patricia Urquiola

Just think about how amazing paper really is. You can write, draw, paint and print on it; you can cut and fold it; you can mold it. Above: A4 lantern by Naoto Fukasawa

In the West, however paper is often thought of as a disposable commodity, not intended to last much longer than today’s newspaper. This is why those of us at Luminaire feel it is time that we took stock and looked at paper anew. Above: Newspaper table by Ernst Gamperl

All proceeds from the auction will again go to fund the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. We look forward to making a significant contribution toward finding a cure as we unite for the single cause of conquering cancer through art and design. Above: Package by Konstantin Grcic
