Dutch Design Week 09: at Designhuis in Eindhoven this week Design Academy Eindhoven graduate Jephte Francissen presents a system for storing items in crates overhead.
Called Hoog en Droog (High and Dry), the project consists of wooden storage crates that can be hoisted up to the ceiling using a clock spring.
The project is on show as part of an exhibition called Talent, on show at the Designhuis until 25 October.

Here's some text from Francissen:
--
Who does not have the need for a good storage system and extra space? Hoog en Droog exploits the empty space above our heads. Jephte Francissen made storage crates with left over pieces of wood from a furniture maker, featuring an ingenious hoist system, enabling the crates to be raised towards the ceiling and pulled back down again without difficulty.
The mechanism on the bottom consists of a clock spring that saves the energy of the user. When the crates are raised upwards, the spring unwinds and the rope rolls itself up, while when they are pulled down the spring is used under tension. When you release the crate, it stays hanging where it is on its own. Hoog en Droog is an attic for clutter for people with clutter but no attic.
