Australian designer Ben McCarthy has designed a watch where the hours are marked by creases in its pressed-steel face.
Called Pi Watch, the design features an injection-moulded strap sandwiched between the front and back casing.
The crown for adjustment is concealed in the back.
McCarthy developed the watch for Australian brand Workshopped.

The Pi Watch - Timeless Design Elegance
There were many outstanding designs in the stellar range of Australian furniture, lighting and accessory products that were showcased at this year's WORKSHOPPED09 exhibition. One piece that had a singular beauty and inspired design was Australian born designer, Ben McCarthy's, Limited Edition Pi Watch.
Based now in Hong Kong as the Senior Designer for Michael Young Ltd, Ben McCarthy is a multi-award winning designer who in 2007 received several awards from Home Beautiful Products of the Year Awards. Ben has exhibited in Tokyo, London, Hong Kong, Milan and Australia. He will exhibit some of his designs during 100 Design London with Tom Dixon. Designed exclusively for WORKSHOPPED and soon to be available from selected stores, Ben's Pi watch design is testimony to the depth of this gifted designer.
The Pi Watch is quite remarkable in the elegant simplicity of its design and operation. Constructed from stainless steel, Pi has an immediate solid, masculine appeal. Its three dimensional dial highlights the hours via creases in the pressed metal. The face of the watch is formed with a 1mm thickness glass face. The outer form is clean and pure with the crown, for adjusting the time, cleverly concealed at the back of the watch within the depth of the casing.
On first viewing, people attending the WORKSHOPPED09 Exhibition remarked on the honesty of its design and its obvious attractiveness to men who desire a watch that while being a statement of style, is also totally functional. There are no extraneous or unnecessary elements to this design. Even the custom made strap is multi-functional by maximising comfort while increasing waterproofing. Pi is waterproof to 30 metres and uses a two hand Japanese made movement.
There are grey and black strap editions of the Pi watch. The first 500 watches in both the grey and black range are numbered limited editions.
This tasteful timepiece is available through WORKSHOPPED'S Online Store and will be available through selected stores including Top 3 by design in Sydney.
