Tafelstukken by Daphna Isaacs and Laurens Manders

DMY Berlin 2010: these oak and ceramic centrepieces by Eindhoven designers Daphna Isaacs and Laurens Manders were one of three winning projects at the DMY Awards, announced in Berlin on Saturday.

The ceramic components are dyed with pigment, sanded back and oiled to give a matte finish.

Called Tafelstukken, the pieces combining lamps and containers were shown at Dutch Design Week in 2009 (see our earlier story), and are now produced in the designers' studio in altered shapes and different colours.

Here's some more information from the designers:

Tafelstukken

The five 'complete' lighting objects shine upon themselves as well as the objects placed in them.

The lamps are open for your own interpretation. For example, a 'Tafelstuk' can be used as a container to highlight your everyday objects (keys, fruits or a magazine).

All the pieces are produced in Daphna and Laurens' Eindhoven-based workshop.

With their series 'Tafelstukken' Daphna and Laurens won a 'Three out of ten' DMY award. Awarding Daphna Isaacs & Laurens Manders, Hella Jongerius as a representative of the jury pointed out that Berlin stands out in terms of research, experimenting and prototyping but it is also important to acknowledge the finishing of products and that is why the jury chose this accomplishment of a very tactile and nicely-functioning product.

Tafelstukken is a limited edition of 15.
