Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby studied architecture together at The Royal College of Art in London and established the award-winning firm, BarberOsgerby, in 1996. They have since worked across a wide range of disciplines to create everything from furniture, lighting, household products, restaurants, shops, drinks bottles and electronic products for companies worldwide as well as architecture. Making their mark with technical craftsmanship, formal vigour, and inspired use of colour, this is the first monograph on their work which offers a unique behind-the scenes look at the pair’s design process.
Barber and Osgerby’s work is part of permanent museum collections worldwide and includes iconic designs like the best-selling Tab Lamp (2008), and is part of permanent museum collections worldwide. Their portfolio ranges widely from accessible work to custom one-off pieces, including furniture for Portsmouth Cathedral, hangers for Levi’s, and the limited edition, anodized Iris Tables. Barber and Osgerby have produced work for companies such as Cappellini, Vitra, Sony, Stella McCartney, and Coca-Cola. Featuring concept sketches by the designers, and behind-the-schenes photographs, the book is organized thematically with an emphasis on materials and process, tracing the inspirations and working method of this unique design duo.
