5th Designer Werktag 2011, Hamburg
Glas Trösch once again organised the 5th Designer Werktag
For the first time, this year's Designer Werktag came to the north of Germany in Hamburg with a mix of international presentations, atmospheric product showcases and a party to wrap up the event. Around 600 architects, interior and other designers visited Kaischuppen 52 (which is protected as a historic building) opposite the up-and-coming Hafen City.
The former handling warehouse with its three aisles and stylish, open-style supporting structure is one of the last remaining “cathedrals of work” (as they are known in German) in the Hamburg harbour. The interior was transformed into a network room by the Swiss architecture and design company Atelier Oï for the Designer Werktag:
Blue plastic nets, supported by large helium balloons, formed a constantly slightly moving structure, suggesting the maritime environment of the harbour. Various exhibition areas were defined, culminating in the stage for presentations at the top of the hall. The pull of the balloons had been exactly adapted so that the nets floated like a delicate, blue wavy roof over the exhibition at half the height of the room.
Atelier Oï’s backdrop created a special room experience. By using "networking" as a theme it also symbolised the Designer Werktag's wish to make contacts and to generate a strong network between architects and exhibiting companies. After a welcome address by Christian Jetzt (Glas Trösch) and presentations by Aurel Aebi (Atelier Oï), Ben Pradel (Glas Trösch) and Christian Veddeler (UNStudio), the companies presented their latest ideas for interiors.
The Designer Werktag’s compact presentation of the 14 partner companies - Anker, Armstrong, Création Baumann, Girsberger, Jasba, Kährs, KWC, Lista Office, raumPROBE, Trilux, VARIO, Villeroy & Boch, Villi and Warema – gave visitors an overview of the trends and developments in interior design and offered inspiration for new approaches to design and planning in their everyday work.
