London Design Festival 2011: Dutch designer Marcel Wanders presents a photographic installation featuring mermaids exploring the Moooi collection at the London Design Festival, which starts today.

The installation at Moooi's west London showroom incorporates piles of furniture from the collection against a backdrop of the giant underwater photographs, plus lighting and an ocean soundscape by London studio Creatmosphere.

The installation opens from 19 to 25 September at The White Building, Portobello Dock, 555 Harrow Road, London, W10 4RH.

Wanders also launches a collection for UK retailer Marks & Spencer this week, as reported in Dezeen Wire.

Launching on Monday the 19th at The White Building, Moooi’s West London Showroom, is a debut exhibition of the Mermaids photographic artworks, created by Marcel Wanders

Alongside the photographic project, the showroom space has been transformed and sunk to the bottom of the ocean where Marcel Wanders’ Mermaids will guide you through the Moooi collection. A series of islands have been created with furniture and lighting piled as if shipwrecked, to correspond with the gigantic, photographic imagery which provides a stunning backdrop to the new collection. Sounds of the ocean, lighting and music by Creatmosphere, enhance and visually manipulate this beautiful installation by Moooi’s Marcel Wanders who has again captured the vibrancy and allure of Moooi products within this, his most recent art project. Prepare to be enchanted by Mermaids.
