This week Chinese architect Wang Shu of Amateur Architecture Studio in Hangzhou was named 2012 Pritkzer Prize laureate and we rounded up his key projects.
Our most popular story featured architectural photos that have been manipulated to create bizarre and fantastical buildings, and Wolfgang Tschapeller surprised readers with an equally strange-looking design to overhaul the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Ateliers Jean Nouvel unveiled designs for a new police headquarters in Belgium that readers describe as an ominous watchtower.
Other popular stories included a "pristine" and "beautifully done" top-heavy concrete and glass house in Portugal, a staircase looping between the floors of an Olympic museum in Georgia and a Dutch house submerged in snow that features steps made of old snowboards and a bookcase made of an old car.
