This time last year Dezeen headed off to Milan for the 50th Salone Internazionale del Mobile where we curated an audio installation playing tracks sent in by readers with Jawbone and Yves Béhar of fuseproject. Twelve months later we've launched Dezeen Music Project to promote new, original music by young and upcoming musicians.
Last Milan we also launched our video website Dezeen Screen in Ventura Lambrate. Movies shown in Dezeen Screen's first week included interviews with Gabriel Lamb of fuseproject, UK designer Benjamin Hubert and Nader Faghihzadeh of BMW. Since then we've published over 400 videos about architecture and design.
Elsewhere in Milan, Rotterdam designer Diederik Schneemann showed a collection of colourful vases and lamps made from flip-flops that had been found washed up on beaches in Kenya and one reader described a wrinkly chair by Fernando and Humberto Campana for Italian brand Edra as "testicle chic".
Meanwhile, Spanish architects Grupo Aranea perched a faceted apartment on top of an older building owned by the client's mother, readers debated the practicality of a dance studio in Beijing wrapped in mirrors that create the illusion of mist and one reader said they wanted to "lick the walls" of a chocolatiers’s shop in Brussels.
David Chipperfield's renovation of the Neues Museum in Berlin won the Mies van der Rohe Award and Design Miami/Basel announced Asif Khan, Mischer’Traxler and Studio Juju as winners of the W Hotels Designers of the Future Award.
