Five years ago...
Five years ago this week a huge new stadium by Foster + Partners opened in London, while yet more radical projects were proposed for the United Arab Emirates, including a bulging office block by Zaha Hadid and a revolving skyscraper.
Both in Dubai, the rotating tower by Dynamic Architecture and the curved Opus by Hadid were our most commented on stories of the week, as our readers were busy questioning the financial viability of each project.
As well as unveiling Wembley Stadium, Foster + Partners also released plans that week for a Corten-clad winery in the Spanish countryside, which was completed three years later and went on to win an RIBA award.
It was Belgrade Design Week over in Serbia, where both French designer Ora-Ito and Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola presented new work. Dezeen was there and we published our snapshots from the opening party.
Ceramics were also popular, as both designers Jaime Hayon and Sam Baron showed us their new collections for Italian brand Bosa and we featured a lamp made from a fragment of an older one by Wieki Somers.
