This week five years ago Dezeen was at the opening of the Royal College of Art's 2007 summer show, where graduate designers were exhibiting jewellery made from sugar crystals and pencils, a chandelier-making machine and digitally recreated snowflakes.
David Sutton's 3d-printed bowls modelled the forms of lighting and coral, as well as snowflakes, while Greetje van Helmond's sugary jewellery (above) was grown onto pieces of cord.
Graduate Ben Storan had come up with a concept for a highly efficient wind turbine, Jordi Canudas had designed a screen-cum-sofa (above) and Sarah van Gameren had created a production line for making candle chandeliers.
Elsewhere, David Chipperfield unveiled designs for a new gallery in the east of England (above), which opened last year, and architects Estudio Barozzi Veiga won a competition to design a concert hall in Poland, which is currently under construction.
