Transport design was hot news five years ago: architect Zaha Hadid unveiled a three-wheeled concept vehicle (above) while Boeing launched the revolutionary Dreamliner jet and Fiat revamped the much-loved Fiat 500 (below).

Even furniture designers tried to get in on the act, with Nils Holger Moormann producing a chair with a wheel (below).
Also five years ago, car brand BMW produced a report into The Secret Life of Cars (below) which revealed, amongst other things, where men and women preferred to sit in their vehicles, how cup-holders were put to unexpected uses and how the family car journey was replacing the family meal as the main together-time for busy people.
Finally, architects OMA unveiled designs for Jeddah International Airport, which included a spectacular private terminal for the Saudi royal family (below).
