A police station (above) that one reader labelled "an unsettling sci-fi pastiche" was controversial, as was a garden of decaying books (below).
The most-commented story of all though featured a carbon-fibre axe (below), met first with desire and then with doubts over its practicality.
Meanwhile the fate of the Olympic park was under scrutiny in the lull before the Paralympics, with plans for housing on the site unveiled, a question mark over whether it could remain open for tours during the redevelopment and the possibility of shipping temporary structures to Rio for the 2016 Games.
