This year designjunction welcomes the Tramshed into the event to create an even more spectacular showcase for design and culture. Set within the industrial surrounds of a 1960s Sorting Office, the venue offers a spectacular backdrop to showcase the latest cutting-edge design across an impressive 120,000 sq ft space. designjunction will house leading global design brands, smaller labels, pop-up shops, large-scale installations, temporary restaurants, bars and cafes, interactive flash factories, live entertainment, a leading seminar programme and much more.

Flash Factories
A series of interactive Flash Factories will demonstrate some industrial and handmade production processes such as the wood-bending machine used to craft the classic 214 chair by Thonet. Visitors will have the chance to win a chair that’s been made that day, every day. There will also be upholstery demonstrations from the Republic of Fritz Hansen.

Fans of vintage design classics and modern collectables, can take their pick from 16 leading mid-century dealers and contemporary designers, hosted by Midcentury Modern. On the other hand, one-off design items by leading designers are also available to buy, raising money for cancer support charity Maggie’s.
Pop-up Eateries
Experience the very best in British gastronomy and design as multi award-winning Canteen restaurant and Transport for London (TfL) combine to create a unique dining experience, open to the public for lunches. The interior space will be designed by designjunction’s creative director Michael Sodeau with furniture courtesy of Modus and overhead lighting provided by Very Good & Proper. The project will reference London Transport’s old canteens, which in their heyday served 100,000 meals every day.
Seminal Danish furniture manufacturer Carl Hansen will provide all the furniture and lighting for the first floor Danish Bar, which will celebrate both the best of design and food the country has to offer. The menu, devised by Anders Selmer (former protégé of Rene Redzepi) will offer delicious Danish produce rarely available in the UK. The 8m-long bar, designed by Michael Sodeau, will feature 25 of Carl Hansen’s Wishbone chairs. The bar will be open daily and seats up to 30. On the ground floor, Artek will present their 2nd Cycle concept - re-purposing old Aalto chairs found in flea markets and schools - where vintage Artek stools are given a new lease of life. The stools will form part of Artek’s café, where diners can buy the furniture they sit on.
Entertainment
designjunction will host a full programme of free seminars and talks, including the popular PechaKucha night on 21st September. Art and design collective The Decorators will create a hand-built cinema structure to host talks and film screenings themed around the relationship between film and architecture.
