Here are some more details from Decorex:
Decorex International (23-26 September 2012) is best described as the furniture equivalent of the annual fashion haute couture shows. Under one roof you can discover the latest trends, materials and direction for the coming year. The show acts as a barometer for what’s in or out, the latest styles and shapes in vogue and key colour palettes, inspiring much of what appears in interior designs shops and on the high street for the coming year.
Chairs set the tone and style of any room, from the shape of the leg, the angle of the back, the material used, whether metal, wood or manmade, is it upholstered and in what colour – there are so many different variables. As a result chair shapes are continually changing to reflect the mood of the moment. Decorex is an excellent showcase for new designs and shapes emerging and an opportunity to reissue pieces that resonate with today’s demands and atmosphere. Rebecca Scott’s distinctive chair from the Mood Collection uses a combination of teak for the seat and legs combined with a powder coated aluminium for the back frame. Benchmark meanwhile has a commitment to use only sustainable wood in the design of their contemporary furniture range. The company holds the European rights to reissue the 1950s and 1960s designs of Danish-born American designer Jens Risom. This year, they are launching the U430, a low armchair by Jens Risom, with its smooth lines and fine details of the original design faithfully replicated.
Katie Walker has made a feature out of the extended table that she has created for Benchmark. The Bellanca table has a walnut frame with curved legs coupled with an oak top and walnut extension – highlighting the growing trend for using a combination of woods. Katie is also exhibiting as part of Crafted, an annual programme that provides one-to-one mentoring for up to 12 craftspeople chosen each year. Looking at traditional chair shapes, she has brought the traditional Windsor rocking chair up to date and created her own inspired creation, the Windsor Rocker. Another Crafted designer this year is textile designer Charlene Mullen, who uses traditional techniques to create luxury embroidered textiles that have an attention to detail and a love of pattern that work in today’s interiors. There is a reason why Decorex is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. Book your tickets now and come and discover why.
