The death of celebrated Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer this week has prompted a string of tributes from readers, while British architect Norman Foster declared him a hero and we looked back at some of his projects from around Brazil, including his career-defining Church of Saint Francis of Assisi (above). As usual, we've also chosen our track of the week from Dezeen Music Project.
Position to Fly is a catchy, upbeat song by east London band Strong Asian Mothers, whose tracks we've been featuring this week in the first three movies from our Dezeen Live series of talks filmed at 100% Design.

Meanwhile, UK designers, creative organisations and design schools rallied together in a campaign to prevent the government from removing design and other creative subjects from the school curriculum, gaining the support of Apple's Jonathan Ive (above), fashion designer Stella McCartney and designers Ed Barber and Jay Osgerby.
Dezeen paid a visit to Miami Beach for Design Miami 2012, where we saw vases marked by seaweed, a lamp shaped like the Eiffel Tower and a tassel-covered cabinet (above) that one reader thinks bears an uncanny resemblance to the female anatomy.
SANAA and Imrey Culbert revealed the first photographs of a new outpost for the Musée du Louvre (above), which they just completed in Lens, northern France, while Zaha Hadid caused yet more controversy as her design for a new city development in Belgrade (below) was described as "monstrous" and "totally out of context" by Dezeen readers.
Finally, we started our countdown to Christmas with the Dezeen A-Zdvent calendar, a showcase of some of the many houses that architects have named after letters of the alphabet, and so far we've featured houses from A up to G. See them all here, including B House (below).
