London Design Festival 2013: London designer Benjamin Hubert has expanded his Pelt collection of furniture for De La Espada with two bar stools, a low stool and a shelving system (+ slideshow).
Hubert's new collection for De La Espada follows the construction process of the Pelt dining chair that he first unveiled last year, featuring three stools with seven-millimetre-thick plywood sheets that curl smoothly around the corners of a solid ash frame.
"The frame of the stool has been reduced to a simple cross construction linking the front and rear legs, and a handle is cut into each seat to enable easy manoeuvrability," Hubert explained.
The two taller bar stools have metal footrests, available in either polished aluminum or brass, while a smaller stool is left without.
Hubert also launched a new shelving system for the range, which comprises a solid ash frame and plywood shelves that flick upwards at the corners.
The new Pelt range was on show during London Design Festival last week at Benjamin Hubert: Antecedents - Hubert's first UK solo exhibition, held at the Aram Store.
Benjamin Hubert also claims to have created the world's lightest timber table, which he showed off at the Aram Store during the festival.
Other products by Hubert on Dezeen include a chair made from lightweight woven mesh and aluminium that weighs just three kilograms and a series of tables made from expanded steel mesh.

Benjamin Hubert x De La Espada
Benjamin Hubert has designed four new products for De La Espada that follows the innovative construction of the Pelt dining chair. The new Pelt collection – which comprises two bar stools, a low stool, and a shelving system – will launch during London Design Festival at Benjamin Hubert: Antecedents, the studio's inaugural UK solo exhibition.
The three stools utilise a thin 7mm plywood shell that wraps around a solid ash frame, akin to the skin over an animal's skeleton. The shell extends down the four legs with a fluid form that seamlessly integrates with the solid frame beneath.
The frame of the stool has been reduced to a simple cross construction linking the front and rear legs, and a handle is cut into each seat to enable easy maneuverability. In contrast to the primarily timber construction of the Pelt collection, the two bar stools have been designed with a metal footrest, available in either polished aluminum or brass.
The shelving system comprises a solid ash frame structure with shelves made from thin 7mm plywood. Sharing the design language of the chairs and stools, each shelf has fluid forms that extend up the vertical supports of the frame, integrating the two elements and increasing the unit's strength.
