Milan 2014: Dutch design duo Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings have applied their signature graphic markings to a range of glassware for Irish company J Hill's Standard (+ slideshow).
Each item in the Elements collection by Scholten & Baijings is patterned with different geometric cuts and frosted patterns, shown at Spazio Rossana Orlandi in Milan earlier this month.
Designed for Waterford crystal glass company J Hill's Standard, the series includes taller highball glasses and smaller tumblers for all drink types.
The studio is known for its application of graphic patterns and tonal variation onto designs, which they have transferred into perpendicular and diagonal cuts, and stripes of frosting for this collection.
"A rich assemblage of graphic markings and opaque tones is what defines this collection of lead crystal glassware," said Stefan Scholten. "Cuts and textures of varying depth and intensity are employed across glasses to create a landscape of layered pattern that is fresh and seductive."
"We wanted to create a whole new take on the typical Irish cut crystal," added Carole Baijings.
The patterns include alternate transparent and translucent horizontal bands separated by cuts, and stripes of frosting in a range of opacities.
In some cases, different geometries have been layered on top of each other to create more complex and decorative designs.
