Oak chevron patterns the walls of this minimal concept store in northern Italy by Archiplan Studio (+ slideshow).
Diego Cisi and Stefano Gorni Silvestrini of Archiplan Studio were sparing with colours and materials inside the small womenswear boutique for Italian fashion brand Dori.
They chose oak to highlight certain elements of the windowless 300-square-metre space in Olgiate, near the city of Varese.
"The concept store is characterised by the presence of a long display wall covered with oak herringbone that is shaped like the bottom of the exhibition space – a large skeletal desk made in sawn oak and a ceiling system consisting of bars that mark the extent of the space," said the designers.
The chevron surface covers one wall at the back of the store, creating a backdrop for selected garments.
These hang from a rail hidden by horizontal white boards, with lights behind that illuminate the wood patterns.
Another surface perpendicular to this wall is mirrored from floor to ceiling to make the space appear larger.
Opposite, a long sawn-oak counter supported by thin white legs is used as the payment area.
On the other side of the space, rails suspended from the ceiling display the majority of the clothes.
Walls and structural columns are painted white, while polished concrete covers the floor.
Spotlights are mounted on the ceiling in lines between the structural beams, positioned over the counter and clothing displays.
