London Design Festival 2014: London design studio Industrial Facility has created a stool to join its Branca family of wooden furniture for Italian brand Mattiazzi.
The Branca Stool by Industrial Facility is created using a combination of computer numerically controlled (CNC) milling and hand finishing.
"The new stool continues the Branca typology of tree branches seamlessly bending and meeting; it is also inviting and comfortable, yet skeletal in its formation," said the studio.
Four legs are joined by a cross-shaped element beneath the gently curved seat.
The rear two legs continue up and connect horizontally to form a low backrest, which provides support and a place to hang a jacket.
The outline of the seat is mirrored by a powder-coated metal footrest, positioned just over halfway down the legs.
The Branca stool is available in natural ash or painted black, white, or green, with the footrest in matching colours.
The stool will be on show at the Retail Facility Pop-Up, which will be located at 20 Britton Street, London, from 17 to 20 September during the London Design Festival.
It was first previewed at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile design fair in April.
Its predecessor, the Branca Chair, was launched in Milan in 2010 as a stacking armchair influenced by the growth of tree branches.
The design won the furniture category of the Designs of the Year awards organised by London's Design Museum in 2011, and features in the permanent collections of the city's V&A museum, Helsinki's Finlandia Design Museum and San Francisco's Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
