Maison&Objet 2014: Danish design brand Muuto's latest collection features skinny tables, magnetic ceramic vases and candlesticks with small tabs for easy carrying (+ slideshow).
Muuto's Autumn Winter 2014 range of furniture and homeware by a variety of Nordic designers includes a set of slimline tables by Danish designer Cecilie Manz.
Made from a thin plywood surface and equally svelte powder-coated steel legs, the Airy Side tables have rounded tops that come in four lengths including a half-size design that sits against a wall.
The laminate table tops are available in grey, black, green and off-white.
"The idea behind Airy was to create a coffee table that did not scream but still was not afraid to speak," said Manz. "The result is a table series that masters the fine balance between being light and airy, and at the same time having plenty of personality and individuality."
Stockholm-based Iskos-Berlin designed the Fiber Chair with a shell moulded from fibres of wood and recycled plastic.
The shell forms the seat, backrest and armrest in one continuous curving piece, which can be coloured or upholstered in fabric or leather.
"The iconic form marries soft, embracing curves with an environmentally friendly wood-fibre composite, giving Fiber Chair a distinctive tactile texture while also keeping it 100 per cent recyclable," said Iskos-Berlin.
Two pieces in the collection were created by Oslo designer Hallgeir Homstvedt. The first is the Balancing Vases set of coloured-clay vessels, with magnets hidden in their bases so they won't fall off their steel tray.
"Most vases look empty without flowers, but the Balance vases are almost like sculptural silhouettes that you can personalize and arrange the way you desire, with or without flowers," Homstvedt said.
His second designs are white, green and grey marble trivets for placing hot pans on, named Groove after their ridged surfaces.
"Trivets are normally stowed away when not in use, yet I wanted to create a beautiful object, which can add to the atmosphere and bear being displayed," said Homstvedt. "The linear grooves in the marble give the trivets a graphic expression and serves as a nice contrast to the natural structures and patterns in the marble."
Among other home accessories in the collection are Swedish designer Jens Fager's Grip Candlesticks, with a horizontal tab for moving them from place to place while lit, and Danish designer Mette Duedhal's stone Push coffee press.
The full collection will be shown at Paris' Maison & Objet trade fair from 5 to 8 September.
