Dezeen promotion: Tokyo Designers Week will present work by emerging Japanese artists and designers during its debut appearance at Tent London during the London Design Festival this week.
Curated by NPO Design Association under the theme of "Tokyo Imagine", the show will exhibit a wide selection of Japanese art, design, music and technology between 18-21 September at London's Old Truman Brewery.
Tokyo Designers Week will see 16 emerging designers and creatives – including YKBX, Stephanie Honda and Birdman– produce installations and artworks for the Tokyo Creators exhibition.
A Tokyo merry-go-round created by Asami Kiyokawa, who has reinterpreted the popular fairground attraction, will also appear at the festival, in addition to an exhibition of modern Furoshiki wrapping clothes by contemporary designers.
Visitors to Tokyo Imagine will be welcomed to the event with a complimentary cup of sake, a variety of rice wine that is considered to be Japan's national drink.
Tokyo Designers Week is led by creative director Kenji Kawasaki and show designer Kimi Hasegawa, and sponsored by Able & Partners.

Here is more information from the organiser:
Tokyo Designers Week participates for the first time in London Design Festival 2014 at Tent London, to present Tokyo creativity in the form of design, technology art, music, media art and sake.
Organised by NPO Design Association Japan, Tokyo Designers Week will connect with more than 60 design weeks throughout the world, starting from this April's exhibition in Milano Salone 2014 and continuing with this exhibition in Tent London. In addition, we will hold a World Design Week Summit at TDW on October 29.
Under the theme of Toyko Imagine, this exhibition will be comprised of various contents expressing Tokyo, a place where both the contemporary city and Edo culture co-exist. At the exhibition, we welcome you with sake (Japanese rice wine), an essential part of the Japanese culture.
Tokyo merry-go-round
Everyone loves merry-go-round, a beautiful childhood memory of all. At this year's Tent London, Tokyo Designers Week presents a whole new type of merry-go-round designed by Asami Kiyokawa and other Japanese creators under the theme of Tokyo, suggesting a new style of "wa" (Japanese culture). Together with the shiny, speedy movie projected on the merry-go-round, sense the new taste of "wa" in this fancy merry-go-round!
Tokyo Creators
17 up-and-coming designers and representative companies present Japanese creativity and technology in interactive design & art, motion graphics, design technology, product and graphic design under the theme of "Tokyo Imagine" to express contemporary Tokyo.
Oh! Furoshiki Exhibition
The original Japanese culture of furoshiki – not for ecology or for "mottainai" – but "to wrap". We present you furoshiki drawn by top creators who work actively all over the world, in partnership with Musubi.
