News: architect Zaha Hadid has designed an 18-carat white gold cuff for Lebanese jewellery house Aziz and Walid Mouzannar.
Zaha Hadid's Silene cuff is set with 1,048 white diamonds in a pattern that emanates from the centre of the curved jewellery piece. The diamonds create a sinuous web around petal-shaped sections, which become larger towards the cuff's edges.
"Silene expresses the fluidity and complexity of natural forms," said Hadid. "An intricate web gently envelops the pristine white gold cuff resulting in a delicate piece that explores the evolution of organic geometries and patterning."
Only twelve Silene cuffs have been produced, with just one made in 18-carat white gold while the others are formed from different gold varieties.
The London-based architect, who has previously designed latticed gold jewellery for Caspita, created the limited edition for Aziz and Walid Mouzannar.
The pieces were designed to tie-in with an exhibition of work by Dori and Alia Mouzannar, the sixth generation of designers for the Beirut company that dates back to the 18th century.
"Our collaboration with the House takes full advantage of Alia's expertise and Dori's knowledge to explore the beauty of natural forms and the unique properties of its materials," Hadid said.
The exhibition opened last week at the Zaha Hadid Design Gallery in London's Clerkenwell area.
Hadid was recently announced as the designer of a completely different cuff, teaming up with rapper Will.i.am to create special editions of his Puls smartwatch.
