Maison&Objet 2015: Italian designer Luca Nichetto is launching his latest products under his own brand – called Nichetto – at the Maison&Objet trade show in Paris today (+ slideshow).
Luca Nichetto has designed seven new objects to join four he debuted in New York last year, all manufactured by Portuguese furniture company De La Espada.
"My idea when I started to design this collection was to create a whole environment in the spirit of the great American architects of the 1950s and from the concept of balancing skilfully hand-crafted wood with complementary materials," the Stockholm-based designer told Dezeen.
Wooden furniture in the Nichetto collection is crafted from European ash or American black walnut.
It includes the Dubois Bed, which features an oversized wrap-around headboard that can be upholstered in a range of fabrics. The design comes with with a tall or low headboard and optional integrated bedside tables.
The Blanche is a bergère armchair, a French-style chair enclosed with a curved upholstered back and high armrests, and solid wood legs.
Also in solid hardwood, the Harold Writing Desk is painted with lacquer and hand polished to a mirror shine.
The upward curves at the left, right and far sides are machined from planks of timber – providing space for open table-top storage – while the H-frame legs are joined with wedge tenons.
The wooden Vivien Chair is made using a combination of computer numerically controlled (CNC) cutting technology and hand carving, finishing and assembly. Its arms are formed from an elongated loop that runs right around the back of the chair, creating a space between the back and seat.
The Marlon table's circular tabletop comes in solid hardwood or marble, divided into three segments that come apart for ease of transportation. The legs are also made from marble.
Mitch is a cabinet system available in numerous configurations made from solid hardwood and polished lacquer with burnished brass details inspired by Venetian doorbells.
The new products are available in three colours, named Warm, Cold and Natural, which share a nature-influenced theme.
"When I started designing products for my brand Nichetto, I asked my friend Massimo Gardone, photographer and expert in visual communication, to help me find an aesthetic for the brand," the designer told Dezeen.
"He showed me Herbarium, his work of many years, where he photographs elements of nature such as leaves and flowers. We selected three of his images for 2015 and extrapolated a colour scheme from each one."
The Stella pillows that complete the collection were created with Madrid fashion designer Yulia Yadryshnikova, incorporating details such as darts and pleats.
Also part of the Nichetto range are the Elysia Chair, the Stanley Sofa and the two Laurel Living Room Tables that the designer launched last year.
The collection is currently on show at Maison&Objet, which opens today and runs until 27 January.
