Italian designer Piero Lissoni has paired a round-edged cube seat with a vertical rectangular back to create this upholstered chair for furniture brand Viccarbe.
Piero Lissoni's Season Chair is built with solid perforated timber and non-deformable polyurethane foam, and also has hidden wheels for easy mobility.
"Season's design takes inspiration from the feeling of comfort evoked by classic bourgeois upholstered chairs to offer an innovative and purified shape, formed by two essential elements – the seating and the backrest – and dominated by soft, organic curves," Lissoni told Dezeen.
The straight back support appears to rest against one of the cube's vertical faces, with the upholstery tucked around both elements to highlight the two distinct forms.
"It plays with contrast, providing a sober and at the same time comfortable piece of furniture, completely lacking severity," Lissoni added. "I always do my best to provide a human, live touch to my work."
The chair is the latest addition to the Season collection, which includes a bench launched in 2011.
"With the innovative spirit that defines his work, Lissoni has come up with a new expression for the Season collection with the addition of a dining room chair defined by clean lines and bourgeois looks," said a statement from Viccarbe.
The chair is available in a choice of upholstery including fabrics and leather in a variety of colours.
Lissoni's previous designs include an office furniture collection for Knoll.
Viccarbe also recently launched a range of furniture with trestle-style supports designed by John Pawson.
