Milan 2015: the selfie phenomenon, food design and scent-based products are the trends emerging on our #milanogram2015 Instagram hashtag. Click through for today's highlights from the city-wide design fair.
It's probably no surprise that the #selfie hashtag is one of the most popular on Instagram, but how is this changing our traditional relationship with design? This question is being explored in Milan by ECAL – the University of Art and Design Lausanne – with its PhotoBooth exhibition. The students' objects and installations allow visitors to experiment with a variety of new processes, creating "interactive and fun ways" of having their picture taken.Â
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Philippe Starck's Juicy Salif, Italian design brand Alessi is also inviting visitors to take selfies. The image above shows the French designer and his wife Jasmine taking a selfie in a booth decorated with pictures of lemons.
In an interview with Dezeen's editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs, Starck later said that viewing the world through a screen and trusting memories to the cloud is making humans less intelligent. He then came up with a "No photo!" pose to demonstrate his point.Â
Food is also on the agenda in Milan this week. Visitors have been discovering the Arts and Food exhibition at the Triennale Design Museum, and continuing to post images of Design Academy Eindhoven's Eat Shit project.
Lots of people are talking about scent-based products, including Outofstock's dip-dyed scent diffusers created from a ceramic material usually used for filtering exhaust fumes in cars, motorcycles and trucks.Â
Popular installation shots regrammed onto Dezeen's Instagram account today included Joseph Grima and Space Caviar's RAM House at Palazzo Clerici, and a sponge installation by MU.
Made in Ratio's exhibition space was one the most-liked images when we posted it to our account and an image of Piet Hein Eek's new Crisis stool in different colours became today's most popular product shot.Â
