Dezeen promotion: the first designjunction edit New York will open on the 15 May, presenting the latest furniture and lighting from leading international designers during NYCxDesign.
Taking place next week, designjunction edit New York's debut during the city's design week builds on previous editions of the event in London and Milan.
Occupying the industrial-style ArtBeam venue in the Chelsea area of Manhattan, the New York edition is a collaboration with design agency smallpond – founders of the annual INTRO/NY exhibition.
Designjunction supported the past two years of INTRO/NY, and now smallpond founder Paul Valentine hopes that "designjunction will be a marquee addition to the NYCxDesign lineup".
Over 25 brands including Mass Productions, Modus, Tokyobike and Imamura Design will showcase products alongside exhibitions curated by Studio North and INTRO/NY.
"This is a really exciting time for designjunction as we build across new platforms and new territories," said event director Deborah Spencer. "New York is a key market and gives our brands a fantastic opportunity to do business in the US. New York is at the centre of design and remains one of the coolest cities combining style, commerce and culture."
Following a partnership with interior design event IDS, Studio North has curated a show that celebrates newly established design brands including Twenty-Fourteen and Andy Martin.
To celebrate the launch of INTRO/LA later this month, the INTRO/NY team will create an installation inspired by Los Angeles that will sit alongside work by seven designers including Calico, William Plunket and Natasha Wheat.
Designers Tom Dixon, Lee Broom and curator Glenn Adamson will all be part of a series of live events – which are free to attend – hosted by Dwell magazine on 15 May.
The late night sessions, entitled Dwell Presents, will aim to explore British design while discussing the steady evolution of the New York design scene.
Throughout the event, the industrial space will play host to a popup cafe by Manhattan-based coffee house Irving Farm, as well as an onsite retail space.

Designjunction will make its official US debut during the NYCxDesign in May 2015 with a major collaborative showcase of cutting-edge, contemporary design.
Transforming the industrial surrounds of a warehouse-style venue, designjunction edit New York will present a satellite edition of its flagship London show featuring some of the world’s leading international furniture and lighting brands.
In collaboration with design agency, smallpond, designjunction edit New York will take over the spectacular ArtBeam venue, in New York's cultural hot spot, Chelsea. Located next to The High Line and set among New York's premier art galleries, ArtBeam is set to be the leading destination for design at NYCxDesign.

Designjunction edit New York will showcase more than 25 leading international brands alongside smaller cutting-edge design labels. A section of the show will feature a host of design-led pop-up stores from Tokyobike, Native Union and neo-utility, alongside larger commercial brands including Decode, Muuto, Modus, and Another Country. The show joins the NYCxDesign scene following an initial presence in 2013 and 2014 as a partner of INTRO/NY by smallpond.
Designjunction will host a series of thought-provoking design debates throughout the week in association with Dwell, including sessions with Tom Dixon and Lee Broom, as well as other leading commentators from different creative sectors, alongside a vibrant onsite café.
INTRO/NY returns this year with a scaled down presentation within the designjunction edit venue, featuring a Los Angeles inspired installation to celebrate the launch of INTRO/LA which makes its debut during the Los Angeles design festival opening 29 May 2015.

Dwell Presents as part of designjunction edit New York
Dwell magazine have partnered with designjunction edit New York to present a series of exciting live sessions as part of the show's late night programme on Friday 15 May. Confirmed content includes leading British designers Tom Dixon, Lee Broom and New York's Glenn Adamson, Museum of Art and Design (MAD). Dwell's editor-in-chief Amanda Dameron will chair each session, exploring British design and the steady evolution of the New York design scene.
Proper New York coffee from Irving Farm
The onsite cafe this year will be operated by Manthattan-based coffee house, Irving Farm. Driven by the craft of coffee making and their love for New York, the team will create a contemporary pop-up serving South American and Ethopian blends.
Studio North & Prototype at edit New York
Adding to the diverse offering designjunction edit New York, alongside Canadian design show IDS, presents Studio North, a show within a show which promotes newly established design brands. The curated exhibition will present a wealth of design disciplines from up-and-coming talent such as Kamenko, LIAO and Twenty-Fourteen.
Introducing INTRO/LA
INTRO/NY presents a selection of brands in celebration of newly established partner show INTRO/LA, which launches during the Los Angeles Design Festival later this year. The exhibition will feature a Los Angeles inspired installation alongside seven cutting-edge designers including Calico, William Plunket and Natasha Wheat
Contemporary, London-based design brand, Decode, collaborate with some of the finest designers of the moment to create stand-out pieces which carve new silhouettes to classic design pieces. Celebrating British design, Decode's designer portfolio boasts Anthony Dickens, Sam Wilkinson and Benjamin Hubert to name but a few.
Danish brand, Muuto, strive to expand the Scandinavian design tradition with new and original perspectives. Inspired by the Finnish word, 'muutos', meaning new perspective, they handpick the brightest design talent in Scandinavia, inviting each designer to express their individual story through everyday objects. BALANCE vases turn classic design into new perspectives with the clever use of magnets set into the base of the vases. The magnets allow the sculpted vases to balance confidently on top of the accompanying tray to make a bold silhouette that is striking with or without the addition of flowers.
Tokyobike is a small, independent bicycle company founded in 2002 in the quiet Tokyo suburb of Yanaka. Based on the concept of Tokyo Slow, the bikes are designed to be light to ride with an emphasis on comfort over speed. The bike is simply a way to enjoy your city; making it as much about the journey, as the destination. Launching at designjunction edit New York, the Tokyobike x New Balance Classic Sport Model was designed for New Balance to celebrate the launch of their highly anticipated C-Series release. The bike is available in two matte finish colours and is accessorised with the Brooks Cambium collection.
Massproductions is a Stockholm based furniture company, run by experienced designers Chris Martin and Magnus Elebäck. Massproductions develop high quality, tactile furniture in a modernist spirit. Massproductions launch three new products including 'The BIT Table', which forms part of a small range of side tables based on a central column made from laminated wood. Inspired by architectural forms, the table is the outcome of an exercise based on construction and rigidity and has now been re-engineered for volume production.
Sahn, launched 2012, has a fresh, almost spartan take on the traditional urban bicycle helmet. Imamura is a design company working in New York City's East Village and Osaka Japan. Their furniture series combines elements from American industrial steel furniture design and European mid-century design praxis. Imamura Design will debut for their first time in the USA this May with some new additions to their existing Toffoli range of lighting fixtures and steel furniture.
Italian brand Colè Italian Design Label launched in 2011, produce high quality design, entirely manufactured in Italy. Established in 2000, Modus Furniture is an award-winning British furniture manufacturer dedicated to producing the best in contemporary design. The company works with internationally acclaimed designers and emerging young talent to produce high-quality, covetable pieces for domestic and contract use.
London based H, draw inspiration from their Mexican origins. This May they will collaborate with British artist/designer Ptolemy Mann to explore complex applications of colour and traditional dying techniques to create bespoke editions of their Loom collection.

Neo-utility represents both established and emerging design brands from around the world, focusing on products that are inherently useful and innovative. Their success comes from the diversity of their international partners such as Jansen+co from The Netherlands and Miller Goodman from the UK.
