Dezeen editor Anna Winston has been named Business Digital Editor of the Year at the annual British Society of Magazine Editors Awards.
Winston, who has been editor of Dezeen since 2014, picked up the award at the British Society of Magazine Editors (BSME) Awards ceremony in London last night.
Judges praised Dezeen as "a beautiful place to spend time", with "clear authority" in the architecture and design industries.
The BSME awards are widely considered the most prestigious prizes in UK publishing. Other winners at the event held at The Brewery last night included the editor-in-chief of architecture and design title Wallpaper*, Tony Chambers, who was awarded the Mark Boxer prize for outstanding services to the magazine industry. Graphic designer Simon Esterson picked up an award for art direction on Pulp magazine, while the Guardian Weekend magazine won Cover of the Year – Consumer.
It is the second time Winston, 32, has won a BSME award. She was named Business Web Editor of the Year in 2011 while running Bdonline, the website for former UK architecture industry weekly magazine Building Design.
She joined Dezeen in March 2014, and oversees a growing team of journalists in the UK and New York, as well as Opinion writers and freelance contributors.
Dezeen is enjoying a bumper year for major publishing industry awards. Earlier this year, Dezeen's social media editor Ross Bryant picked up the BSME Rising Stars award for Best Use of Social Media.
In July, Dezeen won the Commercial Partnership category at the AOP Digital Publishing Awards 2015 for our collaboration with car brand MINI. The Dezeen and MINI Frontiers project also won Commercial Campaign of the Year at the British Media Awards in May.
Dezeen Studio, which produces Dezeen's video content, was named Best Content Studio at the Digiday Awards in New York in March, and our video interview with Imogen Heap picked up People's Voice for best technology movie at the Webby Awards in April.
Winston is also shortlisted for Team Leader of the Year at the Periodical Publishers Association (PPA) Digital awards, which will be held in London next week. Dezeen's editorial team is also up for Content Team of the Year at the awards, and Bryant is nominated for Outstanding Digital Talent.
At next month's PPA Independent Publisher awards, Winston is up for Editor of the Year, Bryant is up for Rising Star of the Year, deputy editor (design) Dan Howarth is up for Writer of the Year, and the editorial team is up for Team of the Year.
