We've published thousands of beautiful houses since Dezeen was founded. To mark our ninth birthday today, we're revisiting the nine that have been most popular with our readers (+ slideshow).
House in Nakameguro by Level Architects
First published on Dezeen in 2011, this home in Tokyo is the most popular house we've ever published, thanks to one key feature: a giant curving slide that connects all three floors. It also has a double-height terrace that doubles as a ball pen for the client's children. Find out more about this project »
Second on our list is another house with a built-in slide, this time encased in concrete and connecting the children's playroom to the kitchen. The home is in Jakarta, Indonesia, and is almost entirely open plan. Find out more about this project »
Mirage House by Kois Associated Architects
This house with a spectacular infinity pool on the roof isn't built yet, but it's one of the most-read projects we've ever published. The cavernous home is designed for a site on the Greek island of Tinos. Find out more about this project »
Holman House by Durbach Block Jaggers
A Picasso painting inspired this cliff-top house near Sydney, Australia, which is the fourth on our list. The curved forms of the kitchen and living room jut out over the edge of the cliff, supported by four angled stilts. Find out more about this project »
Optical Glass House by Hiroshi Nakamura
The fifth most popular house on Dezeen is in Hiroshima, Japan, and features a shimmering glass-brick facade. The wall offers glimpses of a plant-filled courtyard that provides a buffer between the busy street and the private living spaces beyond. Find out more about this project »
Not technically a new house, but a major overhaul of an existing building, this super-slim home in London was designed by local studio Alma-nac. The plot previously provided access to stables behind two bigger homes. Find out more about this project »
Garden and House by Ryue Nishizawa
Japanese architect Ryue Nishizawa designed the seventh most popular house of the last nine years for two writers. The four-metre-wide five-storey townhouse in Tokyo is fronted by a stack of gardens. Find out more about this project »
Cat Hill Barn conversion by Snook Architects
Eighth is this conversion of a dilapidated 18th-century barn in Yorkshire, north England, to create a family home with a double-height kitchen. The idyllic snowy photography helped make this one of the most popular stories on Dezeen last year. Find out more about this project »
Casa 11 Mujeres by Mathias Klotz
Rounding out the list in ninth position is Casa 11 Mujeres (Eleven Women House) by Mathias Klotz, a cliff-top house near Santiago in Chile that we first published in 2008. Built as a holiday home for a family with 11 daughters, the house is built on a 45-degree slope, resulting in some spectacular overhangs. Find out more about this project »
