BIG unveils replacement for Foster's Two World Trade Center design
In June, Danish architecture group BIG unveiled it's stacked-box design for the Two World Trade Center skyscraper, ousting UK firm Foster + Partners from the project.
BIG's glass-clad tower, consisting of seven stacked cuboids, will occupy a plot at the 16-acre World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan. BIG and Heatherwick unveil "vibrant new neighbourhood" for Google's California HQ
Google published a video in February of its long-rumoured plans for a new headquarters in Mountain View, California, designed by BIG with London-based designer Thomas Heatherwick.
The campus will be partially built in modules by crane and robot hybrids, dubbed cranebots. In a subsequent interview with Dezeen, BIG partner Kai-Uwe Bergmann told Dezeen that robots would completely transform the construction industry. Find out more about the Google HQ project »
Tadao Ando's first New York building shown in new images
We published new images of Japanese architect Tadao Ando's first New York project in March. The seven-storey concrete and glass building on Elizabeth Street in Lower Manhattan will house seven apartments.
In a subsequent movie interview about the project, Ando said that he wanted to "create something that only a Japanese person could do". See more images of this project »
New York's first micro-apartment building to be completed in December
Rapidly escalating property prices in Manhattan have been a hot topic this year, thanks in part to a rash of skinny skyscrapers springing up around the city.
This modular residential tower, named My Micro NY and designed by nArchitects, is meant to offer a solution to New York's affordable housing shortage. Find out more about this project »
Diller Scofidio + Renfro releases first official photos of The Broad
One of the most hotly anticipated US buildings of 2015, Diller Scofidio + Renfro's The Broad museum opened its doors in September. The first official photos of the museum in Los Angeles were taken by Iwan Baan, although plenty had already appeared on Instagram.
The museum is part of a new architectural boom in Los Angeles, which is turning into a "dystopia gone right", according to international and local studios who are prospering from the city's combination of low rents and big projects. Find out more about The Broad »
