French designer Inga Sempé has created a collection of rectangular mirrors framed by brightly coloured ribbon for Danish brand Hay.
The Ruban range features five different sizes, which can be arranged singly or placed together as a group. Four of the mirrors are hung as vertical rectangles, contrasted by a single long rectangular design that is displayed horizontally.
The mirrors are framed in oak, which is banded by a section of textured ribbon. Each design is distinguished by its own colour, with dark blue and green used for the smaller mirrors, yellow and orange for the larger, and bright red for the horizontal design.
A second piece of fabric is attached to the mirror with brass screws, and extends up and out of the top of the frame to form a loop for hanging.
"I designed those mirrors because I was interested in finding a system to have a light but not raw glass mirror," said Sempé, who previously designed a modular pinboard for Hay.
"I wanted it to be framed in a delicate way, not a luxurious one," she added. "The solution is made out of a soft material – a ribbon – surrounding the mirror glass becoming its frame as well as a hook to hang it on the wall."
Sempé has also created cutlery for Alessi, mix-and-match tiles for Mutina, and a quilt-covered armchair for Ligne Roset.
"I hate minimal objects, I find them hyper boring and cold," said the designer. "I am interested in simplicity enhanced by a little more, hard to define, but that would make the difference with the existing objects."
Other mirrors covered by Dezeen include Oscar Diaz's adaptable Volume mirror, that can be positioned at different angles, and Royal College of Art graduates Sasa Stucin and Nicholas Gardner's combined mirror and smoke diffuser.
