Stockholm 2016: Swedish designer Monica Förster has partnered with brand Erik Jørgensen to create a coffee table to be used with her Savannah seating range for the Danish furniture company.
The Savannah tables echo the slender wooden framework of the sofas and chairs, which were designed by Förster for the company a year ago. The furniture rests on four slightly splayed legs, which support a solid oval-shaped top – two different sizes are available.
"This table is designed to harmonise with the entire collection, but it can also stand on its own," said Förster, who has previously designed a modular sofa system for Fogia and wooden furniture and accessories for Zanat.
"With its slender lines, it is also an extremely versatile table – making it ideal as a side table or in the hall as well," she added.
The Savannah furniture come in a range of dark or light wooden finishes, and buyers can choose between versions of the table top in wood or granite – described by the company as a "distinct contrast to the popular marble trend of recent years".
"The Savannah series features natural Scandinavian materials, so it seems more fitting to use granite," said Förster. "The beautiful joinery combined with the solid granite top creates a uniquely Scandinavian sensation."
Others that have also explored the possibilities of the material include AMOO, which combined it with marble to create a series of tessellating side tables.
The Savannah series was shown at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2016, which ran from 9 to 13 February. Also presented were new products from brands including Swedese, Fogia, and Gärsnäs.
Markus Johansson's Mopsy collection with interlinking double tabletops, and Bethan Gray's marble Band tables edged in brushed brass are among other recent table designs.
