Dezeen promotion: Japanese brand Maruni Wood Industry will launch products by designers Naoto Fukasawa and Jasper Morrison at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile fair in Milan next week (+ movie).
From 12 to 17 April, the brand will present the new designs alongside the rest of its collection during Milan design week 2016.
Maruni art director and product designer Naoto Fukasawa will exhibit the Stackable chair and stool as additions to his Hiroshima series, first released in 2008. The original Hiroshima features a curved line that leads from the arm rest to the back support.
"There has been demand for items that can also cope in public spaces, and when I considered trying to make this, I thought of a stackable chair and stool that could combine with such a strong and different material as stainless steel," said Fukasawa.
Fukasawa updated the product into the Stackable chair and stool by combining the wooden seat, sculptural back and armrest with a slender stainless steel frame.
"The appearance of the stool and stackable chair from behind was particularly important," said the designer. "I designed with the thought of wanting to make the shape beautiful as seen from the back."
The stool follows the same sculptural language but features just one carved-out mass of wood on top of a set of longer chair legs. Both designs are available in beech, oak or walnut.
Fukasawa has previously also designed a sofa with a curved upholstered back that wraps around the body for Maruni.
British designer Jasper Morrison will unveil new pieces called the O stool and T chair. The seats combine solid maple wood with elements of steel coloured in black, green or red.
O stool is comes in low, mid and high sizes. T series consists of the T chair and bar stools available in two different heights.
Working with Maruni since 2011, Morrison has created a range of pieces including the Bruno sofa, which features full rounded cushions on a bench-like wooden frame.
Maruni's collection will be on show at Stand F32, Hall 16, at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan from 12 to 17 April 2016.
