New York 2016: the annual NYCxDesign festival is underway, and Dezeen's Dan Howarth has selected seven of the showrooms and exhibitions not to miss during the citywide event.
NYCxDesign runs until 17 May 2016 across New York's five boroughs, although most of the action takes place in Manhattan and Brooklyn. It encompasses large exhibitions such as the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), Wanted Design in both Brooklyn and Manhattan, designjunction + Dwell on Design, as well a host of smaller shows and presentations.
The fortnight-long festival kicked off with last week's Collective Design fair, where highlights included Fort Standard's material-focused furniture range, Nendo's products with sketch-like outlines, and an installation of nipple tiles.

Sight Unseen Offsite
Moving to a new location in Midtown's Grace Building, the annual exhibition curated by editors Monica Khemsurov and Jill Singer promises plenty of pastel-coloured furniture from New York's emerging designers.
The show will also feature a specially commissioned installation by architects Leong Leong. Topo will comprise more than a thousand foam rollers, which will pick up ambient sounds and translate them into a sonic soundscape.

A Few Good Things
Following the Structure exhibition of Norwegian homeware in Milan, a scaled-back edition called A Few Good Things will take place at the Manhattan half of Wanted Design.
Ten of the country's breakthrough designers will present typically Scandinavian products, ranging from large furniture pieces to small accessories.

Ventura New York
One of the highlights of Wanted Design Manhattan will be the Ventura showcase of cutting-edge design from the Netherlands.
From the team behind Ventura Lambrate – one of the key destinations for experimental products during Milan design week – the exhibition will feature projects created with unusual materials and techniques, including work by Design Academy Eindhoven graduates.

Also fresh from Milan, London designer Lee Broom is set to open his first shop in New York.
Aptly located just off Broome Street in SoHo, the temporary "Postmodernist theatre" will showcase and sell furniture and lighting from his latest collection. Find out more about Broom off Broome »
The Future Perfect
Among design store The Future Perfect's launches this year is a collection by designer Christopher Stuart, titled Constructs and Glitches. The range draws attention to the errors created by CAD software during his design processes.
The shop is also debuting an aluminium lighting system called Equalizer by Ladies + Gentlemen Studio, which features blown glass elements created by John Hogan.
Danish furniture company Carl Hansen & Søn is launching two chairs by Modernist designer Hans J Wegner: a reissue and design that has never been released before.
Also at its SoHo showroom, the brand will present a series of new collections by artist and textile designer Naja Utzon Popov and Austrian studio EOOS. Find out more about Carl Hansen & Son's launches »
The minimal lighting designs of Michael Anastassiades will be the focus of activities for Flos.
