Ukranian studio AKZ Architectura paired a blushed-pink colour palette with Art Deco-style furniture for the interior of this champagne bar in Kyiv (+ slideshow).
The designers were asked to create a space that felt "fundamentally different" from other bars in the Ukrainian capital, which typically feature rustic brickwork, metal and wood.
With this in mind, they based their design for Naïve bar on the sparkling wines it will serve – combining pastel-toned pink walls with Art Deco-style details.
"[We wanted] to try and show the essence of this drink – its lightness and a sense of celebration," said the team. "The bright and at the same time gentle colours, with the 1970s-style furniture and Art Deco-style bathroom, create the space where you want to forget everything and just drink sparkling wines and cocktails, and feel happy."
Structural columns throughout the space are painted in a Dalmatian-like pattern on the lower halves, and covered in mirrored panels above.
In the main area, the bar counter is covered in a reflective gold material to match with the metal elements of the furniture.
Behind the bar, bottles are displayed in an alcove that has been filled with paper cutouts of foliage and flowers.
Chairs and tables are arranged around the outside of the space. A long ochre-coloured seating bench features a backrest reminiscent of an Art Deco-style fan.
According to the architects, the rest of the furniture was inspired by pieces from the 1970s, including chairs with rounded backrests and glass-topped tables.
Unlike the rest of the space, which is relatively soft in colour, the floor and ceiling of the bathroom are covered in starkly contrasting stripes of black and white tiles.
Full-length wall-mounted mirrors are arch-shaped to match the cubicle doors. Inside, the white stripes are replaced with marbled patterns that also match the toilets.
AKZ Architectura is made up of architects Zuieva Katya and Olga Malyshenko. Previously, the duo created the interior for a vegetarian cafe in Kyiv by completely covering the space with white tiles and installing a "jungle" in the toilets.
