New York designer Alissia Melka-Teichroew has added a tea set featuring a perforated sugar spoon to the collection of 3D-printed homeware brand Othr (+ slideshow).
The Grid cup and saucer are 3D-printed in porcelain, and the matching spoon in either polished silver or 14-karat gold plating.
They are the latest items from Othr, a studio that works with various designers to release a new 3D-printed product every two weeks.
Through her design, Melka-Teichroew aimed to rethink the traditional coffee or tea set by creating a group of complementary objects.
Her set is finished off with a spoon that has gridded perforations extending from its bowl up the handle. In the manner of a traditional sugar or absinthe spoon, the item is designed specifically for use with sugar cubes.
"The [spoon's] grid makes its sole function clear: it only exists to hold sugar, stir the tea or coffee, and be licked when done," said Melka-Teichroew.
The shape of the saucer's tab and the cup's handle are both intended to echo the outline of the spoon. The saucer's tab also makes the flat surface easier to pick up and carry.
Othr was founded by Joe Doucet, Dean DiSimone and Evan Clabots. The brand launched during this year's NYCxDesign festival, and began with 12 small products by designers and studios including Claesson Koivisto Rune, Todd Bracher, Michael Sodeau and Sebastian Bergne.
More of the brand's recent launches include a porcelain wall planter by Clabots and a letter opener by New York studio Saatchi Design, available in 3D-printed polished bronze, matt black steel or polished gold steel.
