Copenhagen's Northmodern design fair will showcase Scandinavian furniture and interiors
Dezeen promotion: design event Northmodern is set to present Nordic, northern European and international furniture, lighting and accessories in Copenhagen from 18 to 20 August 2016 (+ slideshow).
The trade show for furniture and interior-design manufacturers and makers will take place at the Bella Center exhibition and conference space, between the Danish capital's city centre and airport.
Dezeen is media partner for this year's Northmodern event, which will present designs from well-known Danish design brands like Fredericia, Engelbrechts, Mater, Paustian, Hagedornhagen/Royal Copenhagen, and Woud.
International brands Arper, Baux, Kasthall, Offect, Resident, Stellar Works, Zeitraum and Zero Lighting are also on the exhibitors list.
Luxury sustainability agency 1.618 Paris will showcase a selection of brands and projects that encompass transport, interiors and craft, including the World Green Car 2016 winner the Toyota Mirai.
Design studio Rive Roshan will show an installation of deconstructed textile and wood as part of a collaboration with Danish brand Kvadrat.
New for this year's event is the Talents and Emerging Designers section, which will focus on smaller, younger design brands, alongside projects by graduates from KADK – The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation.
Also on display for the first time is an exhibition of work by designers nominated for the Danish Design Award. Four of the finalists will present their projects on the final day of the show.
During the event, Design Denmark will host a series of talks debating design and cultural boundaries, from the power of pop-ups and the future of retail, to the DNA of Danish design.
Speakers will include Kinfolk magazine editor Nathan Williams and the Designmuseum Denmark director Anne-Louise Sommer. Designers Lars Vejen and Tine Mouritsen will also discuss their studios' methods and projects.
As the area surrounding the Bella Center is being transformed into a new residential neighbourhood called Bellakvarter, Northmodern brand ambassador Birgit Tarp of Design Circus has styled the interior of the first show home. The townhouse includes furniture and interiors products from Northmodern exhibitors.
A major new construction project – called Northmodern Studio – will expand the Bella Center to house a design centre with permanent furniture showrooms, alongside places for pop-up galleries, stores, restaurants and art installations.
Northmodern was launched in January 2015 as a biannual showcase of design. The event is set to become annual in May 2017.
