Five of the best apartment renovations in Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv's apartment buildings are being transformed with contemporary interiors by a wave of local architects and designers. We've rounded up five of the best new apartment designs in the Israeli city, including a renovated space with a dramatic steel staircase and a penthouse with an infinity pool on the roof (+ slideshow).

Duplex Apartment by Toledano Architects

A dark, folded-steel staircase provides the dramatic centrepiece for this duplex studio renovated by Paris- and Tel Aviv-based Toledano Architects to better accommodate a young family.

Instead of being connected to the floor, it stops above a wooden bench that doubles as a piece of built-in furniture and the final steps to connect the apartment's lower level. Find out more about Toledano Architects' duplex studio »

Past Turned Into Space by Pitsou Kedem Architects

Pitsou Kedem Architects – one of the most prolific of the of Tel Aviv studios – was given the task of renovating and extending a flat that was once owned by Israel's first prime minister, the late David Ben-Gurion.

The project, Past Turned into Space, saw the firm reorganise the interior of the ground-floor flat and add a basement level with industrial-style fittings. Find out more about Past Turned into Space »

Modular studio by Raanan Stern

Tel Aviv architect Raanan Stern adapted a room inside an artist's apartment to create a multipurpose studio space with a vast array of storage options.

The design allows for a living and working space to exist simultaneously, with 36 drawers, two desks and a folding bed arranged inside the 15-square-metre room. Find out more about this modular studio »

Renovated apartment by Maayan Zusman and Amir Navron

Delicate black frames and furnishings were used to structure the space inside this open-plan apartment.

Interior designer Maayan Zusman selected black window and door frames, and dark furniture that resembles line drawings, to contrast with the light-coloured surfaces and finishes in the rest of the apartment. Find out more about this Tel Aviv apartment »

Square Compositions Penthouse by Pitsou Kedem Architects

Another Pitsou Kedem project, this penthouse with a roof-top infinity pool and balcony was created by knocking four apartments into one to create a two-storey home.

The walls are covered in a composition of raised and recessed squares, removing the need for additional wall decorations to add personality to the space. Find out more about Square Compositions Penthouse »
