Maison&Objet 2016: Danish design firm Kristina Dam Studio has created minimalist coat stands and book shelves based on intersecting geometric shapes (+ slideshow).
The pieces are part of the studio's Sculptural Minimalism collection of furniture and homeware described as having "a distinct Scandinavian and architectural expression".
The collection's steel-framed Book Keeper is a single shelf fashioned from two square prisms. The first frame sits flat on the surface, while the second rests on top at a 45-degree slant, so the books that sit on it are angled with their spines pointing upwards.
It provides a decorative display for a small selection of books. Studio founder Kristina Dam told Dezeen she had aimed to create "a sculptural place for your most treasured books or even cookbooks to place in your kitchen".
Also made from steel, the Grid Coat Stand features a single frame in the shape of a rectangular prism. It is intersected by a low steel shelf for shoes, and has a single rail that sits flush with the top of the frame for hanging clothes.
Dam wanted the piece to be "easy to place in a hall, bedroom or even bathroom". Both the Book Keeper and Grid Coat Stand are available painted in black or white.
The Sculptural Minimalism collection also includes lighting, candlesticks, stoneware vases and a series of "desk sculptures" in complementary stone, marble, wood and brass.
Kristina Dam Studio will present the collection at September's Maison&Objet trade fair in Paris, as well as the Oslo Design Fair and Amsterdam's ShowUp beforehand.
At the same time, the studio will release some designs from its 2015 collection in new styles. This includes a variation of the Cube Table with a grey tiger-skin marble top from Portugal.
Founded by Dam, a graphic designer and architect, the studio is based in Copenhagen.
