The tetrahedral New York apartment building designed by Bjarke Ingels Group is captured in these pictures by photographer Montse Zamorano (+ slideshow).
Facing the Hudson River at 57th Street on Manhattan's West Side, the Via 57 West tower includes 709 rental properties and 142 units that qualify as affordable housing.
Tenants began moving in to the 940,000-square-foot (87,330-square-metre) complex in March 2016, and are slowly filling up the spaces that range from studios to four-bedroom units.
Danish architect Ingels described the structure as a "courtscraper" in a 2014 interview with Dezeen.
As shown in Zamorano's photos, the building is arranged around a courtyard that has the same proportions as Central Park.
Its unusual form, which slopes up from almost ground level to a 467-foot (142-metre) point at its north-east corner, was designed to provide river views for as many residents as possible.
The metal cladding across the front is punctured by openings that act as balconies for the units.
Amenities for occupants include an indoor basketball court, swimming pool, fitness centre and screening room, while 45,000 square feet (4,180 square metres) of retail space is spread across the ground floor.
Ingels has designed a chair for the building's lobby and lounges produced by Danish brand Fritz Hansen, which recently kitted out an office at the UN headquarters on the opposite side on Manhattan.
Via 57 West is BIG's first completed project in North America. The firm, which opened a New York office in 2010, is also working on a major residential development in downtown Toronto and stadium for the Washington Redskins football team.
Its design for a skyscraper at Two World Trade Center in New York is currently being considered against an earlier proposal by Foster + Partners.
