A+Awards: Belgian design office Five AM overhauled a tiny caravan to create this studio on wheels, which is next up in our showcase of this year's Architizer A+Awards winners.
Kortrijk-based Five AM created the versatile mobile studio named Dojo Wheels to allow the team to take their workplace on the road during events such as Milan design week.
They stripped back the interiors of the old caravan, fitted new wooden window frames and replaced the ceiling.
A circular meeting table that seats six can be raised from the new plywood floor, which is inserted at a raised level to create space for storage below.
"It had to be multifunctional, a blank canvas," said the architects. "A place where we can do whatever we want."
"It can easily change its setup to offer the user the most practical surrounding," they continued. "The flat surface acts as a bed, couch and table with storage available underneath."
The longer sides of the caravan are lined with white-painted pegboards that can be used to attach wooden boxes for storing stationary, magazines and plants. Project drawings can also be displayed here.
At one end of the space there is a blue coach that can fold down to create a bed. There is also a small fridge for keeping up to 150 beers cool.
A new ceiling features integrated artificial lighting, as well as a skylight above table. There are a range of different lighting options – from reading lamps to work and outdoor lights – to create different working environments.
Dojo Wheels took home one of the prizes in the Office category at the 2016 A+Awards.
Organised by Architizer, the awards promote and celebrate the year's best projects and products.
Their stated mission is to nurture the appreciation of meaningful architecture in the world and champion its potential for a positive impact on everyday life. Find out more about the A+Awards »
