Dezeen promotion: a touch-responsive clock that tells the time with shadows is among a series of furniture and home accessories to be auctioned off by Auctionata on 6 December 2016.
Broadcast by online auction platform Auctionata, the sale will feature a mix of contemporary designs and antiques.
This includes the Shadowplay Clock by Vienna design collective Breaded Escalope – one of only six produced. The device is made up of a raised plywood ring with LEDs underneath that shine into its centre.
By placing a finger in the middle of the circle, the user activates sensors that turn off all but three of the lights.
Each casts a shadow of the outstretched arm in the directions that clock hands would point to at that given moment. Seconds are marked by a fainter shadow than the minute and hour hands.
The Light and Music Machine by German artist Daniel Kühn will also be up for sale. Kühn spent 20 years designing and building the gold apparatus item, which he gifted to the American conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein.
The auction will also feature French design from the 1920s to 1960s, including wooden chairs and a coffee table by Marc du Plantier and a fan-shaped side table designed by Pierre Chareau in 1924.
A chest made in Vienna in 1915, which is gilded on the exterior and covered with Vienna Secession patterns inside, is also available for bidding, as well as a cabinet modelled on a Renaissance palazzo.
Auctionata will broadcast the sale on 6 December 2016 at 6pm CET online at www.auctionata.com.
Bids can be placed before the sale or live on their website, the Auctionata Live iPhone app or via the telephone. To register, visit the auction catalogue.
