Dezeen promotion: Competitions for Designers is inviting graphic designers to create labels for red wine produced at the Cantina Valpolicella Negrar winery in Italy.
The competition, which is organised by Competitions for Designers (CODE) in collaboration with the winery, tasks designers with creating a label based on the Greek mythological king Ulysses for its Amarone red wine.
"Producing wine is a complex experience," said CODE. It means carrying on an ancient tradition, which goes far beyond entrepreneurial spirit and embracing centuries-old practices as well as innovation, charm and discovery."
"[The winery] is asking creative designers to develop a label that has what it takes to become an icon, a collection item, the object of desire for thousands of wine lovers from all over the world."
The organisation asks for wine labels that depict "the versatile identity of the wine", as well as providing information about the company producing it.
Registration has already opened and will close on 12 February 2017. All materials must be submitted by 15 February, before the jury – which includes graphic designer David Carson and illustrator Alessandra Scandella – come together to award the prizes.
Winners will be announced on the 20 March. The first prize will receive €5,000 and their project realised, second will win €2,000, third takes €1,000, and four Gold Mentions will each win €500.
As well as the cash prizes, there will be 10 honourable mentions and 30 finalists.
