David Adjaye announced as guest of honour for IDS Toronto 2017
Dezeen promotion: British architect David Adjaye has been unveiled as the international guest of honour at this year's Interior Design Show in Toronto, which takes place next week.
The 19th annual Interior Design Show Toronto (IDS) will take place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from 19 to 22 January 2017.
Featuring both local and international design talent, the event includes 300 exhibitors, a talks programme and a variety of installations.
This year's international guest of honour David Adjaye – who recently received a knighthood for services to architecture – will speak on the Caesarstone Stage as part of the Azure Trade Talks series.
Adjaye ranked 41 in the Dezeen Hot List, and is famed for projects such as the Dirty House and Stephen Lawrence Centre in London. He has just completed one of the most important projects of his career: the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC.
A roster of other speakers, also Spanish designer Jaime Hayón, will present on the Caesarstone Stage over the course of the event, alongside design classes and trade seminars.
Hayón will use traditional techniques of stone marquetry and metal crafting for an installation, described as a whimsical universe inspired by the natural and mythical worlds.
Called Stone Age Folk, it will feature 48 different colours of engineered quartz material Caesarstone, combined with metal and glass.
Other installations and special features during the event include The LAB, which will present the newest and latest technology, apps and gadgets for design trade professionals and homeowners.
Products for outdoor areas will be showcased at the Open Air exhibit, while the Partisans Factory will be "equal parts fabrication warehouse, artist studio and lounge party".
The event will kick off with the Opening Night Party, featuring music and entertainment by Bellosound, with special guest Satin Jackets.
