British interiors firm Studio MacLean used monochrome paintwork, oak chevron flooring, and cherry wood and marble finishes to overhaul this London house.
The Camberwell-based studio designed the renovation of the west London property – which measures 4000 square-foot (371 square metres) – and its garden studio for a family who wanted to update the interiors with timeless finishes.
Oak parquet covers the floor, and the home has an otherwise monochrome palette. Studio MacLean painted the existing window frames, ceiling beams, doors and fireplace – as well as all the walls and ceilings – white.
This is offset by a series of black finishes, including the custom-made steel doors that replace some of the doorways, and the wall and ceiling lights. The studio also painted the radiator and staircase black.
"The family wanted the house to have a clean, simple style that would remain timeless as they intend to live in the property for many years," studio founder Jason MacLean told Dezeen.
Cherry wood cabinets with white marble tops and custom-made marble sinks – part of Studio MacLean's Yellow Dot Kitchen range – feature in the kitchen.
Next to the kitchen, the dining room windows overlook the garden. A long dining table with black and brown patterned chairs fills the space, while a fitted wooden and glass cabinet slots into the end wall.
Simple furnishings in the lounge spaces include a black leather sofa, a mixed wood rocking chair, and glass-topped side tables.
Monochrome also features in the five bathrooms, which include a black bathtub, custom-made marble shower trays and sinks, steel shower screens and doors, and matt white tiling.
Inside the compact garden studio, located within the grounds of the house, the wall planks and steeply pitched roof with its wooden beams are also painted white.
A simple daybed custom-made from plywood sits on the lower level, while steps lead to the upper level, where a small study desk in placed.
Other recently renovated homes in London include a property revamped with herringbone parquet, grey marble and brass, and another enlivened with a bold colour palette.
