Marc Goodwin photographs 12 architecture studios in Beijing

Photographer Marc Goodwin visited 12 architecture studios in Beijing to create this photoset, which offers a glimpse inside the workplaces of MAD, Zhang Ke and Vector Architects.

The broad variety of offices in the Chinese capital captured by Goodwin, who runs the photography studio Archmospheres, range from a darkly lit former boiler room to apartments once used by diplomats.

Zhang Ke's studio ZAO/standardarchitecture is located in an old warehouse with a faceted roof pierced by a long skylight. Board-marked concrete walls running along one side of the open-planned space outline nooks for meeting spaces and a library.

The 105 employees of MAD – founded by Chinese architect Ma Yansong – reside in a former print works. Existing wooden trusses and brickwork walls remain exposed on the upper floor.

Walls, floors, structural beams and pipework are all painted white in the former university building that Vector Architects' studio has worked in for two years.

The offices of Urbanus, Crossboundaries and Chiasmus Partners are also included in the photoset – the latest in Goodwin's series of architects' studios in different cities. The photographer has previously visited Paris, London, and Nordic studios.
