Dezeen promotion: a modernist-inspired carousel by Lee Broom, IKEA's own festival, an exhibition by Maarten Baas and the latest Material Futures projects from Central Saint Martins will be part of Ventura Lambrate and new sister district Ventura Centrale during this year's Milan design week.
Run by seasoned exhibition organisers Ventura Projects, Ventura Lambrate is one of the main shows during Milan design week, and is known for bringing young and experimental design to the city each year.
It returns to Milan's Lambrate district from 4 to 9 April 2017 for its eighth edition, with 128 exhibitors from all over the world.
This year will feature an additional new exhibition space, Ventura Centrale, based in a series of abandoned warehouses at Milan Central Station. Dezeen is the main media partner for both events.
At Ventura Centrale there'll be new projects from established designers like Broom, whose Time Machine exhibition will include his new marble grandfather clocks and a fairground carousel installation based on modernist references.
The area will also feature Luca Nichetto's collaboration with Ben Gorham for Italian glassmakers Salviati, as well as a new exhibition by Baas for Lensvelt called May I Have Your Attention Please?.
Back at Ventura Lambrate, IKEA is staging a whole festival with workshops, installations and music. The brand's new designer collaborations will also be debuted at the venue, including its Delaktig modular sofa and bed by Tom Dixon.
Among the up-and-coming exhibitors is recent Design Academy Eindhoven graduate WooJai Lee, who is showcasing his recycled PaperBricks – strong enough to form pieces of furniture.
Another experimental project is Fabio Hendry and Martijn Rigters' The Colour of Hair, which saw the designers burn human hair to create etching-like patterns on aluminium stools.
Central Saint Martins Material Futures graduates will be presenting their projects focused on the junction between craft, science and technology, while the annual Experimental Creations display from Japan will focus on the work of six designers concerned with materials and processes.
Basten Leijh Design Studio is showing #Howareyou, a series of 10 new objects spotlighted under cylinder of light, while Daniel van Dijck presents the equally intriguingly named Touch Me! Please Do Not Touch, a reference to museum displays.
Other projects on display include Ecopixel' Affordable Recycled Material, Handmade Industrials' Impose series of vessels, Joynout's furniture designed for daydreaming, Inderjeet Sandhu's Re-Productie plant sculptures, Erin Turkoglu's multicoloured Chromatic Nature products, Nynke Koster's rubber-cast Fragments of Time, Pikaplant's Ecosphere plant pots that don't need to be watered and Umut Yamac's delicate Fragile/Nature lighting.
Ventura Lambrate coincides with the Salone del Mobile trade fair in Milan and will be spread around several different locations in the Lambrate area of the city. A booklet containing a map and a full list of exhibitors is available to download.
The exhibition will be open from 10am to 8pm from Tuesday 4 to Saturday 8 April, and 10am to 6pm on Sunday 9 April. At Ventura Lambrate, there will also be an open evening on Wednesday 5 April from 8 till 10pm.
