Artist Camille Walala has used her signature colourful style to create a maze inside a southeast London gallery, imagined as a playground where visitors can "unleash their inner child".

Walls covered in bold geometric patterns, mirrors and bright hues form Walala's maze, located at Now Gallery.

"Walala has set out to create a temple to wonder in which visitors can unleash their inner child and lose themselves in colour and pattern," said the gallery.

"With walls of different heights, passageways of different widths, enclosed spaces and curved and zigzag paths, the installation foregrounds the idea of human scale, giving visitors both a lasting visual impression and an extraordinary physical experience as they pass through it."

Called Walala x Play, the installation occupies the main exhibition area of Now Gallery, which is located on the the Allies and Morrison-masterplanned Greenwich Peninsula development.

This setting – a finger of land that extends into the River Thames – inspired the unusually shaped spaces inside the maze.

"The layout of the installation playfully mirrors the shape of the building and its components are positioned in response to the mapping of the building and the peninsula around it," said the gallery.

"Seen from above, there is a clear, fluid relationship between the walls of the installation and the aerial view of the wider area, making the piece a structural extension of its immediate environment."

Details and patterns in the maze will also be subtly changed throughout the duration of installation. Visitors will be challenged to find these new inconsistencies, as a game of "spot the difference".

Walala graduated with a degree in textile design from the University of Brighton in 2009 before setting up her eponymous studio in east London.

She has previously covered a building in Shoreditch with her signature prints and designed a collection of Memphis-inspired homeware.

During last year's London Design Festival, she applied her signature graphic style to a pedestrian crossing in Brixton, and for this year's event will create a "building block castle" made up of giant soft shapes each patterned with a digital print.

Walala x Play is on show at Now Gallery from 13 July to 24 September 2017.
