Amy Frearson has been highly commended by the British Society of Magazine Editors, which has described Dezeen under her editorship as "unstoppable".
Frearson narrowly missed out on being named specialist editor of the year in the prestigious industry awards, which were held at The Sheraton Grand London Park Lane Hotel last night, 21 November 2o17.
The prize, which was won by Richard Headland of Which? magazine, had an eight-strong shortlist, making it one of the most hotly contested categories.
Frearson joined Dezeen in 2011, and was appointed editor in October 2016. Under her steer, the magazine has celebrated a series of successes, which include being named as one of the 5,000 most popular websites in the world and breaking all of its records for traffic and comments.
"The highly commended in this category goes to a brand that continues to build success upon success," the judges said. "An excellent example of an unstoppable niche title in a difficult market."
The BSME Awards are widely considered the most prestigious in UK publishing. This year's winners also included former Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman, GQ editor Dylan Jones and Jason Cowley of New Statesman.
Dezeen's creative director Micha Weidmann – who was behind the revamp of the website last year – was also nominated in the B2B art director category.
Dezeen is also in the running for a host of other journalism prizes this winter. In the International Building Press Journalism Awards, the website is shortlisted for best digital service and Dezeen founder and editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs is nominated for multimedia journalist of the year.
We are also shortlisted for video team of the year at the Digiday Awards Europe, while our recruitment site Dezeen Jobs is vying to be named best niche jobs board at the National Online Recruitment Awards.
The company's other accolades from the past year include a BSME Talent Award for best digital content idea, in recognition of Dezeen Hot List, and two awards from the Association of Online Publishers Awards, for editorial team of the year and best use of video.
